Kampong Glam

Kampong Glam is an area comprising a mix of ethnic Malay and Arab communities, according to the Urban Planning Rafless version in 1822. When British troops arrived in Singapore in 1819 a treaty was signed between the British Government with the Sultan of Johor and Shah Husen Tumenggong Abdul Rahman from Trengganu. In the agreement it was given permission to the British to establish a post in Singapore. Instead, the Sultan and his family are given in the Kampong Glam area and established homes and mosques for his descendants. Until the end of this area is a haven for immigrant Muslim Malays who came from Malacca, Riau and Sumatra island of Indonesia. Sultan Mosque built this place is very famous and was founded in 1824.
The most famous places in the region is Arab Street, known as a paradise textile or fabric. On the road home is lined on both sides of the home shopping street. Very comfortable to walk along Arab Street while shopping. At this location is also a lot of typical diner with a menu of well-known Malay.
